KARACHI: In pursuance of special directions from the Prime Minister, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) met with a high-level delegation of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Pakistan Business Council (PBC) Tuesday at Karachi to discuss and resolve key issues faced by the business community.

The meeting focused on strengthening business facilitation, addressing complaints of harassment, and ensuring highest level of integrity in dealing with taxpayers to create a more favourable economic environment. Business leaders highlighted the pressing issues faced by them.

Chairman FBR reaffirmed his commitment to streamlining tax processes, expediting pending refunds, and simplifying compliance to boost trade and industry.

Strict instructions were issued to tax officials regarding fair treatment of taxpayers, with assurances that harassment of legitimate businesses will not be tolerated. During the meeting, the issues raised by participants were heard, and directions were issued on the spot.

Both sides agreed on enhancing transparency through increased interaction at senior level and ensuring continuous supervision by members operations and their senior officers at Karachi.

FBR and members of the Business Community agreed to establish a collaborative framework for continuous engagement to promptly address genuine grievances of the business fraternity. Committees comprising of senior FBR leadership and representatives of the business community to be constituted to streamline workflows and processes, expedite resolution of pending issues and ensure stakeholder consultation.

The FPCCI and PBC delegations appreciated the Prime Minister’s proactive initiative and thanked the Chairman FBR for a constructive, solution-oriented discussion, expressing confidence that these measures will bolster business confidence and support national economic growth.
