ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday congratulated PML-N leadership and winning candidates after the party secured gains in the second phase of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections.
In a message after the announcement of the results, the prime minister extended special felicitations to PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, who had taken an active part in the party’s election campaign.
Crediting the outcome to the “hard work, dedication and tireless efforts” of the party leadership and workers, the prime minister said Pkaistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had mounted an effective campaign across AJK.
He congratulated the successful candidates, saying the results reflected public confidence in the party’s policies and political direction.
The prime minister said development, prosperity and public welfare in AJK remained among the PML-N’s key priorities.
He also said that participation of political parties in the electoral process would contribute to strengthening democratic traditions in the region.
The victory celebrations, however, unfolded against the backdrop of a disputed electoral process.
The PTI had boycotted the polls, while PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, whose party is a key ally of the ruling PML-N at the Centre, has accused the PML-N of widespread rigging in the elections.
Rejecting the opposition narrative, Prime Minister Sharif welcomed the results as a reflection of public support for his party and congratulated the victorious candidates and senior leadership.
