Suicide bombing at Swat police station kills 14, injures over 25

At least 14 people, including police personnel, were martyred and more than 25 others injured in a suicide bombing outside the Kabal Police Station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat district on Sunday, Aaj News reported citing police officials.

According to police, the attacker attempted to enter the police station but was intercepted by security personnel at the main gate before detonating his explosives.

The blast occurred during a peaceful demonstration organised by a local peace committee near the police station, resulting in a high number of casualties. Most of those martyred and injured were police personnel, while several civilians were also caught in the explosion.

The injured were shifted to Saidu Sharif Hospital, where they received medical treatment. Officials warned that the death toll could rise due to the critical condition of several victims.

District Police Officer (DPO) Swat Muhammad Umar Gandapur said officers on duty prevented the bomber from entering the police station, forcing him to detonate himself near the entrance.

He added that investigators recovered a severed human head from the blast site, believed to be that of the suicide attacker.

Malakand Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Fida Hussain said a youth protest was underway near the police station at the time of the explosion, contributing to the large number of people present at the scene.

Rescue officials said search and rescue operations had been completed, while law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to collect evidence. An investigation is under way to determine the identity of the attacker and the circumstances surrounding the attack.
