ISLAMABAD: At the invitation of the Foreign Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Zheenbek Kulubaev, the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister (DPM/FM), Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, will lead the Pakistan delegation to a meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers (CFMs), being held in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyz Republic, on July 23-24.

The foreign ministers of all SCO member states, including Pakistan, China, Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, will participate in the CFM meeting. The CFM is the third highest forum in the SCO format. It focuses on the issues of international relations, as well as the foreign and security policies of the SCO.

During his visit, the DPM/FM will also call on the president of the Kyrgyz Republic and hold many bilateral meetings with his counterparts from SCO member states on the sidelines of the CFM meeting.

Meanwhile, Ishaq Dar on Thursday met with the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Rt Hon Ed Miliband, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum in Manila.

The DPM/FM congratulated Foreign Secretary Miliband on his appointment and wished him success in his new role. The two leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening the longstanding Pakistan–UK partnership. Foreign Secretary Miliband appreciated the valuable contribution of the Pakistani diaspora to the United Kingdom and its role in further strengthening bilateral ties.

The two leaders discussed regional and international developments, including the security situation in the region. Foreign Secretary Miliband appreciated Pakistan’s continued efforts to promote dialogue and de-escalation during the recent US-Iran tensions. Both sides noted with concern the recent escalations in the region and underscored the importance of continued dialogue, diplomacy, and sustained efforts towards lasting peace and stability.
