ISLAMABAD: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, has been awarded the Turkish Armed Forces Distinguished Service Medal in recognition of his services and commitment to strengthening bilateral military cooperation between Pakistan and Turkiye, the military’s media wing said on Tuesday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the medal was conferred on Field Marshal Munir by Chief of the Turkish General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroglu during his high-level official visit to Turkiye.
The army chief is visiting Turkiye to further enhance the longstanding strategic and defence ties between the two countries.
During the visit, Field Marshal Munir called on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of National Defence Yasar Güler. Matters of mutual interest and regional security were discussed during the meetings, with both sides emphasising the need to further deepen their strategic partnership amid an evolving geopolitical environment.
At the Turkish General Staff Headquarters, Field Marshal Munir was accorded a Guard of Honour before holding detailed talks with General Bayraktaroglu. The two military leaders discussed regional security dynamics and professional matters of mutual concern.
The field marshal also visited the Turkish Land Forces Headquarters, where he was received by Commander of the Turkish Land Forces General Metin Tokel.
During his stay, Field Marshal Munir visited Anitkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, where he laid a floral wreath and paid respects to the founder of modern Turkiye.
The ISPR said the visit reflected Pakistan and Turkiye’s resolve to further strengthen their multifaceted defence relationship and continue joint efforts for regional peace and stability.
