RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) interim chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Tuesday said that the proscribed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has close links with India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
Talking to the media at the Dahgal checkpoint near Adiala jail, he said that the BLA is India and India is the BLA. “The BLA is RAW, and the RAW is BLA,” he said.
To a question about JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazl Rehman’s statement disputing the martyrdom of military personnel, Gohar said that he had not listened to JUI-F’s statement. However, he clarified that he does not agree with Fazl’s remarks about the martyrs. He said that political leaders need to be very careful when making public speeches. He said that our soldiers are our national heroes whose sacrifices can never be compensated.
“Our soldiers are sacrificing their lives for the nation and country. No amount of wealth in the world can equal the sacrifices made by our martyrs,” he said, adding that politicians should refrain from dragging the sacrifices of martyrs into political debates. “The death of a martyr is the life of the nation,” he remarked.
He said that the Khan’s sisters were disappointed with the system, due to which they took to the streets. If the sisters of Khan wanted to launch a street movement for their brother, it is their constitutional and democratic right, he said. He said that all cases against Khan were baseless and politically motivated.
To another question, he said that the chief of Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP) and opposition leader in the National Assembly, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, had announced the launch of a protest movement from August 5. “What PTI will do on August 5, the party’s parliamentary and political committees will decide in this regard.
On the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Gohar said the party’s decision to boycott the elections remained in place. However, the decision could be reviewed if the situation in AJK improved, he added.
Gohar also reiterated his demand regarding the release of all jailed PTI leaders and said that neither Khan’s sisters nor party leaders had been permitted to meet the PTI founding chairman for the past 270 days. He demanded that family meetings with the Khan minister be restored.
Khan family members, leaders, and workers staged a sit-in at Factory Naka near Adiala jail after they were stopped from moving forward toward Adiala jail. Party workers chanted slogans against the government and demanded the release of Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.
