KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Monday said the provincial government is implementing wide-ranging infrastructure and development projects to strengthen the economy, attract investment and improve public services in the province.

In a statement, Sharjeel Memon - having portfolios of Information, Transport and Mass Transit - said Sindh was emerging as a gateway to investment due to the provincial government’s development policies, investor-friendly initiatives and measures to improve the ease of doing business.

He said the government was pursuing practical steps to strengthen the provincial economy, boost exports and promote industrial growth through major infrastructure projects and public-sector investment.

Among the flagship projects, he highlighted the S-III Sewerage Project, the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone, the proposed S-Bus mass transit system, and a Smart Surveillance System. These initiatives would help modernize infrastructure and improve urban services.

The senior minister said the Sindh government was also working on a comprehensive development package worth more than Rs100 billion for Karachi.

He said the package envisages the construction and rehabilitation of roads and bridges, improvement of water supply and sewerage systems, enhancement of stormwater drainage, and the upgrading of civic infrastructure across the city.

Referring to the proposed Medical City project, Memon said the initiative would promote quality healthcare, medical research and investment in the health sector while creating new economic opportunities.

He added that the establishment of new industrial zones and investment clusters would help expand industrial activity, attract fresh investment and generate employment.

Development projects worth over Rs109 billion are currently being implemented under public-private partnership (PPP) arrangements to improve infrastructure and support economic growth.

Memon said the Pakistan Peoples Party-led Sindh government believed in delivering through practical measures rather than promises and remained committed to accelerating development, improving public services and creating a more conducive environment for investment.

He expressed confidence that the ongoing development initiatives would enable Sindh to play an increasingly important role in Pakistan’s economic growth in the coming years.
