PESHAWAR: President, Torkham Border Clearing Agents, Mujib Shinwari has demanded the central and provincial governments to immediately open the Pak-Afghan Torkham border for transit trade, which has been closed since last 10 months.
He expressed these views during a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday. He said that due to the closure of the Afghan border for the past 10 months, the workers have become unemployed and the clearing agents have been laid off. Due to the lack of business, people have been forced to move from the area
Mujib Shinwari demanded from the provincial and federal governments that there should be purposeful negotiations with Afghanistan to end the closure of the Pak-Afghan border and an immediate solution to this problem. He said that we have asked the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi many times but he does not have time for the people related to the transit business from Torkham and he is not paying attention to it.
He said that they demand that the Torkham border should be opened for business as soon as possible because we are regularly paying taxes to the central and provincial governments and at the moment, due to the closure of the Pak-Afghan border, debts have accumulated in our homes.
Mujib Shinwari, while addressing the central and provincial governments, said that war and border business should be kept separate, because the border is blocked two to four times a year in the name of peace and security, the most of which is the loss of the families living on the border, and where the relationships are stopped, the transit business is also stopped, and the biggest loss is the business families living on the border.
He said that wherever there were wars in the world, there was no border closure. Mujib Shinwari said that the government should hold meaningful talks with Afghanistan as soon as possible and find a way for a permanent solution to the Pak-Afghan border.
