Three killed in Islamabad; girl student found dead in hostel at Jamia Hafsa
ISLAMABAD: Incidents of violent crime, including murder and attempted murder, witnessed an increase in the federal capital during the past week, with three people killed, a police constable injured in a gun attack, and an 18-year-old female madrassa student found dead.
According to data gathered by Business Recorder, three people were shot dead in separate incidents, while the body of an 18-year-old female student was found in a hostel at Jamia Hafsa. In a major breakthrough, the Industrial Area Police recovered a one-year-old child who had been abducted from Bhagtanwala, Sargodha. The child was traced and safely recovered from Faizabad through the use of modern technology, Safe City surveillance cameras, and human intelligence.
The city also witnessed a rise in property-related crimes during the week. Police registered 24 vehicle theft and snatching cases, six incidents of street crime involving the snatching of cash and mobile phones at gunpoint, and seven theft cases in which citizens were deprived of valuables.
During the past week, criminal gangs were most active within the jurisdictions of Ramana, Tarnol, Secretariat, Karachi Company, Khanna, and Kohsar police stations. The 25 cases of vehicle theft and snatching included the theft or snatching of 21 motorcycles and four cars.
One of the most shocking incidents occurred near Sihala Police Station, where an 18-year-old Abdul Rehman, a resident of Lahore, lost his life during a robbery. Police said Abdul Rehman, who had been working at a food outlet in Islamabad to support his family, was travelling on a motorcycle with his friend, Ali Raza, on the Expressway when one of the tyres developed a puncture near Kak Bridge. Two armed motorcyclists intercepted them and held them at gunpoint. The suspects snatched a mobile phone and Rs10,000 in cash.
