ISLAMABAD: The weekly inflation based on the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) has recorded a decline of nearly one percent over the previous week, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday.

The PBS said that the SPI-based inflation for the week ended July 2, 2026 decreased by 0.98 percent over the previous week, as food and non-food items, including petrol prices, decreased by 19.77 percent, diesel by 17.73 percent, LPG by 12.60 percent, chicken by 1.97 percent and bananas by 1.44 percent.

However, the year-on-year trend depicts increase of 13.52 percent mainly due to increase in the prices of tomatoes (238.72 percent), onions (80.96 percent), wheat flour (68.47 percent), electricity charges for q1 (49.14 percent), LPG (44.08 percent), gas charges for q1 (29.85 percent, gents sponge chappal (16.69 percent), mutton (16.06 percent), chilies powder (15.20 percent), beef (12.89 percent), bananas (10.53 percent) and bread (9.18 percent, while decrease is observed in the prices of potatoes (36.60 percent), pulse gram (22.11 percent), sugar (19.42 percent), salt powder (14.09 percent), pulse masoor (12.32 percent, eggs (9.30 percent), chicken (6.96 percent) and pulse moong (6.06 percent).

According to PBS data, a decrease was observed in the prices of petrol by 19.77 percent, diesel by 17.73 percent, LPG by 12.60 percent, chicken by 1.97 percent, bananas by 1.44 percent, Pulse moong by 1.29 percent, Pulse Mash by 0.84 percent, garlic by 0.63 percent, Pulse Gram by 0.23 percent, and mustard oil & sugar by 0.21 percent each.

On the other hand, major increase is observed in the prices of tomatoes by 125.40 percent, onions by 10.72 percent, potatoes by 10.06 percent, eggs by 8.32 percent, wheat flour by 5.08 percent, match box by 0.96 percent, shirting by 0.87 percent, washing soap by 0.63 percent, milk fresh by 0.49 percent, bread by 0.47 percent, rice IRRI-6/9 0.45 percent and cigarettes by 0.23 percent.

During the week, out of 51 items, the prices of 23 items (45.10 percent) went up, 11 items (21.57 percent) showed a downward trend, and the prices of 17 items (33.33 percent) remained stable.

The SPI increased by 1.42 percent for households with monthly incomes up to Rs17,732 and by 0.86 percent for those earning between Rs17,732 and Rs22,888. It declined by 0.28 percent for the Rs22,889–29,517 income group and by 0.32 percent each for households in the Rs29,518–44,175 and above Rs44,175 income brackets during the week under review.

The combined SPI for all expenditure groups stood at 354.24, down from 357.76 in the previous week, reflecting a 0.98 percent week-on-week decline.
