KARACHI: Veteran sports journalist, commentator and former first-class cricketer Qamar Ahmed passed away in Karachi, his family confirmed on Thursday. He was 88.
According to family sources, the veteran journalist had suffered a heart attack two weeks ago.
Qamar Ahmed represented the Hyderabad division team in 17 first-class matches during his cricketing career.
He later became one of Pakistan’s most distinguished sports journalists, covering more than 450 Test matches in a career spanning seven decades.
Widely respected in cricketing and media circles, Qamar Ahmed was known for his extensive international reporting and long association with the game at the highest level.
The veteran journalist also penned his autobiography, For More Than a Game, in which he described in detail his life journey as a student in Hyderabad, Sindh, to cricketing days and eventual relocation to London, where he worked for leading British publications.
The book also recounts his rich experiences with cricketing legends and the historical events he covered.
