HYDERABAD: Sindh Community Foundation (SCF) distributed school uniforms among 57 girls of Government Primary School (GPS) Khatho in Village Qasim Memon, UC Mohal, Tehsil Ghorabari, District Thatta, to encourage school enrolment, improve attendance, and support girls’ continued education.
The distribution ceremony was attended by students, parents, teachers, and community members.
The girls expressed happiness upon receiving the uniforms, while parents welcomed the support, which helps reduce the financial burden of education.
Speaking on the occasion, Zubaida Turk of Sindh Community Foundation (SCF) emphasized that education must be prioritized in all coastal development programmes in coastal districts such as Thatta. She stated that while development initiatives often focus on infrastructure, livelihoods, and climate resilience, education remains essential for the long-term development of coastal communities.
She highlighted that District Thatta has an overall literacy rate of only around 26 percent, reflecting the serious educational challenges faced by the district. Poverty, limited educational facilities, long distances to schools, and increasing economic hardships continue to prevent many children, especially girls, from accessing quality education.
Ms. Turk said that initiatives such as the distribution of school uniforms encourage parents to send their daughters to school and motivate girls to continue their studies.
