Ishaq Dar to hold talks with US secretary on regional developments tomorrow

Pakistan's Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar will visit Washington D.C. to meet US officials, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties, discuss regional issues, and enhance cooperation.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar will visit Washington, D.C. on May 29 (tomorrow) for high-level meetings with United States leadership, following the conclusion of his engagements at the United Nations Security Council and other meetings in New York.
According to the Foreign Office, Dar is scheduled to meet US Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio to review bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.
The discussions are also expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in key sectors and Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy.
The Foreign Office said the visit reflects Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening its longstanding and broad-based partnership with the United States.
Following the completion of his official engagements in Washington, the deputy prime minister will return to Islamabad later the same day.
Dar participated in a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Open Debate on Tuesday titled, “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-centered International System.” The debate was convened by China under its rotating presidency of the Security Council and chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
FM Dar is visiting New York on invitation of his Chinese counterpart to attend the UNSC debate.
Dar, Yi discuss regional peace, diplomacy
DPM Dar met today with Foreign Minister of China Yi in New York and exchanged views on recent regional developments and Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to facilitate dialogue and diplomacy, aimed at promoting sustained peace and stability in the region and beyond.
FM Yi reiterated appreciation and support for Pakistan’s constructive role, the Foreign Office said in a statement.
“They also recalled the successful recent visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his delegation to China, as well as the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, underscoring the long-standing friendship and strategic cooperation between the two countries,” it added.
