WASHINGTON: The United States has highlighted Pakistan’s importance as a key counter-terrorism partner and a net regional stabiliser, acknowledging its continued role in efforts against terrorism in the region.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) chief Admiral Brad Cooper told a briefing of the US Senate Committee that Pakistan is a reliable partner in counter-terrorism operations and plays a critical role in the fight against ISIS-K in the region.

He stated that strong military cooperation between Washington and Islamabad has resulted in tangible outcomes against terrorist organisations.

The admiral added that these shared successes reflect the long-standing partnership and mutual commitment between the two countries. Admiral Cooper further noted that regional partners, including those in Central Asia, are closely monitoring evolving security threats emerging from Afghanistan and groups linked to the Taliban.

He also said that due to ongoing terrorist activity and regional security concerns, Afghanistan remains a central focus of US attention and continues to be placed high on its security monitoring priorities.

Security analysts said the statement represents an international acknowledgement of Pakistan’s sacrifices, operational capabilities and strategic importance in the global fight against terrorism.

They added that the CENTCOM assessment reinforces Pakistan’s position that militant networks operating from Afghan soil continue to pose a persistent threat to regional peace and stability.

The remarks are being seen as further recognition of Pakistan’s frontline role in counter-terrorism efforts and its strategic cooperation with international partners.
