PTCL warns of internet slowdown during submarine cable maintenance

  • Maintenance timeline from May 11 to May 18
Published May 11, 2026 Updated May 11, 2026 12:22pm

A planned maintenance activity will be carried out on one of the submarine cables, aimed at repairing a fault by the international cable consortium, according to the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL).

The activity is set to begin on May 11 and is expected to last until May 18.

During this maintenance window, customers may experience degradation in internet services, particularly during evening hours.

“We regret the inconvenience please,” PTCL said.

Internet usage in Pakistan has increased rapidly over the past few years, driven by cheaper smartphones, expanding 4G coverage, social media adoption, streaming platforms, freelancing, and digital payments.

However, internet outages and slowdowns have become a recurring issue in Pakistan over the past few years, affecting businesses, freelancers and ordinary users.
