Sri Lankan shares buoyed by gains in communication services stocks

Sri Lankan shares closed higher on Friday, posting weekly gains as well, helped by advances in communication services stocks.

The CSE All-Share index settled up 0.29% at 23,063.98, gaining 2.3% for the week.

SMB Finance PLC and Muller & Phipps (Ceylon) PLC were the top percentage gainers on the CSE All-Share index, rising 10% and 9.1%, respectively.

Trading volume on the index fell to 273.7 million shares from 514.5 million shares in the previous session.

The equity market’s turnover slipped to 4.09 billion Sri Lankan rupees ($12.74 million) from 5.28 billion Sri Lankan rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data.

Foreign investors were net buyers, purchasing stocks worth 128.9 million rupees, while domestic investors were net sellers, offloading shares worth 3.99 billion rupees, the data showed.
