The Power Division (PD) said on Wednesday that electricity generation had further improved due to the supply of local gas to some power plants.
In a press release issued today, the PD said that on Tuesday night during peak hours, total hydropower generation remained at 6,000 megawatts, adding that the country’s total hydropower capacity was 11,500 megawatts.
The spokesperson further said that hydropower and additional availability of local gas, increased generation, and stability in the national grid from the southern region had made it easier to bring an additional 100 megawatts to the centre.
“A total of 500 megawatts was transmitted from the southern part of the country,” as per the spokesperson.
Last night, electricity distribution companies carried out load management ranging from 25 minutes to one hour during peak hours.”

The press release said that after 8pm, no load management was carried out due to weather conditions, leading to reduced demand.
It added that economic load management was being implemented on high-loss feeders under the policy. “Economic load management has no relation to load management during peak hours.
Due to the unavailability of LNG amid global conditions, power plants with a capacity of 5,000 megawatts are not generating electricity.”

With the availability of LNG and an increase in water releases, the nighttime shortfall will be eliminated, the PD said.
