KARACHI: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Sindh, has issued a heat-wave alert across the province, warning that temperatures are likely to remain 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal over the coming days.
According to officials, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast heat-wave conditions from April 28 through May 3, with several districts expected to be severely affected.
PDMA Director General Salman Shah said areas including Jamshoro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Kashmore, Ghotki and Sanghar could experience extreme heat.
He added that temperatures in Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Larkana and Sukkur may remain significantly above seasonal averages during daytime hours.
On the directives of Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Rehabilitation, Gyan Chand Essrani, standard operating procedures (SOPs) for dealing with heat-wave conditions have been shared with all relevant departments, Shah said.
Authorities have reviewed preparedness measures in coordination meetings, focusing on identifying heat “hotspots” and ensuring a coordinated response.
The PDMA has instructed departments to remain fully prepared, including launching public awareness campaigns, setting up cooling camps, and ensuring the availability of drinking water, oral rehydration salts (ORS), and emergency medical services.
Residents, particularly children, women and the elderly, have been advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight and to increase fluid intake.
Farmers have also been urged to take precautionary measures while harvesting crops and to ensure adequate protection for livestock during the extreme weather conditions.
