LAHORE: Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique has directed the Suthra Punjab Authority to take steps to bring gated communities of Lahore under the purview of the Suthra Punjab Programme.

He issued the direction during a meeting chaired by Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique on Friday. Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Shoaib Mirza, Deputy Commissioner Lahore Capt Ali Ijaz (retd), Suthra Punjab Authority DG Babar Sahib Din and Chief Minister’s Focal Person for Suthra Punjab Asim Mehmood also attended the meeting.

In the meeting, it was decided to take feedback from citizens while discussing the awareness campaign for anti-littering in Lahore. He said that cleanliness targets can be achieved only with the cooperation of citizens. He stressed that the practice of throwing garbage unnecessarily on vacant plots must be discouraged.

“There has been a lot of improvement in awareness in urban areas of Lahore; however, the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) should also conduct a similar awareness campaign in rural union councils,” he said. He directed that machinery should be used where the volume of waste is huge; clearing the areas under the administration of the Pakistan Railways in Lahore is commendable.

On the occasion, the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister said that the scope of the ‘Clean Punjab’ programme is being expanded day by day in Lahore.

The Deputy Commissioner Lahore directed the assistant commissioners to continue inspecting the sanitation operations and expressed his determination that sanitation is a continuous process for which constant monitoring is also necessary.
