ISLAMABAD: The World Bank (WB) has assured the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) of its continued technical support and cooperation to further strengthen the latter’s social protection initiatives.

In this context, a wrap-up meeting between a key WB mission and the BISP management was held at the BISP headquarters on Monday.

Chairperson BISP Senator Rubina Khalid presided over the said meeting of the World Bank’s Implementation Support Mission for the Crisis Resilient Social Protection (CRISP).

In the meeting, the chairperson BISP emphasised the importance of revised survey questionnaires, spot checks, Proxy Means Test (PMT), and the recertification process to further enhance transparency and operational efficiency, said an official statement from BISP issued after the meeting.

She highlighted the need to ensure continuity of the recertification process, strengthen monitoring mechanisms, and incorporate beneficiary feedback to improve service delivery and ensure support reaches the most deserving families, the statement said.

The WB delegation, led by Amjad Zafar Khan, Senior Social Protection Specialist and Task Team Leader, included Gul Najam Jamy, Social Protection Consultant, and Sarah Nizami.

The mission presented its findings on the Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs), particularly relating to education, health, and nutrition initiatives, and highlighted that BISP has made substantial progress with several targets successfully achieved, said the statement.

Key discussions also covered cloud-based data sharing, a beneficiary-centric payment model, and the Hybrid Social Protection Scheme, the BISP statement added.
