High-level delegation due today: Pakistan, Turkiye to sign MoU on judicial cooperation

ISLAMABAD: A high-level delegation of Turkiye’s top court is scheduled to land in Pakistan on Monday (today) on a four-day official visit mainly to sign a key agreement on judicial cooperation.

The visit (April 6-9) is being hosted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The Turkiye’s delegation would comprise the judges and senior officials of the Constitutional Court of Turkiye led by the Constitutional Court’s President Kadir Ozkaya, said a press release issued by the Supreme Court here on Sunday.

A key highlight of the visit will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on judicial cooperation at the Supreme Court building on Monday, the press release said. The MoU is expected to establish a structured and forward-looking framework for collaboration, focusing on judicial exchange, capacity building, and sharing of best practices in adjudication, the press release added.

“The initiative reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Turkiye to strengthening constitutional governance, upholding the rule of law, and reinforcing judicial independence, as well as to fostering closer institutional linkages between their superior courts,” said the press release.

A central feature of the proposed cooperation is the professional development of the judiciary, particularly at the district level, through joint training programmes, academic exchanges, and exposure to comparative judicial practices, the press release said.

It added, the collaboration is also expected to support the integration of modern technologies in judicial processes, aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and accessibility of justice.

The MoU further envisages the establishment of a joint working group to ensure sustained engagement and effective implementation of agreed areas of cooperation, according to the press release.

During their stay, the delegates will engage in high-level institutional interactions, alongside engagements with key justice sector stakeholders, the press release said, adding that these discussions will focus on contemporary challenges in adjudication, judicial administration, and reform-oriented initiatives.
