ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari discussed the proposed Constitutional Amendment with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to ensure its smooth passage through Parliament, it is learnt.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto met with Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence in Islamabad to discuss the proposed key legislation that would be tabled in Parliament in the coming days. The two leaders discussed the current political situation and the upcoming key legislation.

According to sources, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also informed Maulana Fazlur Rehman about the latest talks between the PPP, the federal government, and the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) regarding the key legislation.

Both leaders agreed that any new constitutional amendment must have a broad consensus to ensure political stability in the country.

During the meeting, Maulana Fazlur Rehman also raised the issue of the President’s signature on the Madrasa Registration Bill, which was approved by both houses of Parliament. He expressed concern over objections raised and the delay in signing the bill by President Asif Ali Zardari. However, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari assured that he would take up the matter with the government and the President to help remove legal obstacles at the earliest.

The two leaders also considered adopting a joint strategy within Parliament, especially on issues where differences exist between the government and the opposition. Bilawal emphasised the need for political reconciliation and said that it is a shared responsibility of all political parties to steer the country out of political division.

The meeting also included a discussion on the situation in the Middle East war, particularly tensions between Iran and the United States (US). Both agreed that Pakistan should play its role in promoting regional peace through a balanced foreign policy.

Meanwhile, Maulana Fazlur Rehman has also convened a meeting of his party’s central consultative council, where key decisions are expected regarding future cooperation with the PPP and possible political strategy. Political analysts view this development as an improvement in coordination among opposition parties and a potential step toward reviving a joint platform.
