4.57mn mobile phones locally manufactured, assembled in two months

ISLAMABAD: The local manufacturing and assembling plants manufactured and assembled 4.57 million mobile handsets during the first two months of calendar year 2026 compared to 0.87 million imported commercially.

Official data revealed that 2.88 million mobile handsets were assembled and manufactured during February 2026 compared to 0.40 million imported commercially.

The local manufacturing and assembling plants manufactured and assembled 30.21 million mobile handsets during the calendar year (January-December) 2025 compared to 2.37 million imported commercially.

The local manufacturing and assembling plants manufactured and assembled 4.57 million mobile handsets included 2.03 million smart phones and 2.54 million 2G phones.

Besides, as per the PTA data, 71% of mobile devices are smartphones, and 29% are 2G on the Pakistan network.

Pakistan imported mobile phones of worth $1.295 billion in the first eight months (July-February) of current fiscal year 2025-26 compared to $999.555 million during the same period of last year, registering a growth of over 29.59% growth.

Official data revealed that in terms of rupees, the total value of mobile phone imports stood at Rs364.684 billion during July-February 2025-26 compared to Rs278.162 billion, registering 31.10% growth.

On a Month-on-Month (MoM) basis, Pakistan’s mobile phone imports saw a 13.26% negative growth, totalling $155.547 million in February 2026, compared to $179.336 million in January 2026. Year on year mobile imports witnessed a 17.95% growth when compared to $131.870 million in February 2025.

Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $1.494 billion in the last fiscal year 2024-25, registering a fall of 21.31% compared to $1.898 billion during the previous year, 2023-24.

In terms of Pakistani rupees, the total value of mobile phone imports stood at Rs417.351 billion during fiscal year 2024-25. This represents a 22.09% decline when compared to Rs535.690 billion in the same period of 2023-24.
