Rain, thunderstorm likely to hit Karachi from tomorrow: PMD
- Says lightning strikes may occur at isolated places during forecast period
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Tuesday forecast that rain and thunderstorm with strong winds and isolated hailstorm are likely to batter Karachi and other parts of Sindh on Wednesday and Thursday as a westerly wave is expected to enter in western parts of the country today.
Under the influence of this weather system, the Met Office said, rain and thunderstorm with strong winds and isolated hail storm with few moderate to isolated heavy falls are likely in Jamshoro, Hyderabad, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Mitiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allah Yar, Umerkot, Tharparker, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Nosheroferoz, Shaheed Benazirabad and Dadu districts and Karachi division.
While, it said, rain/thunderstorm with strong winds is anticipated in Larkana, Kamber Shahdad Kot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Ghotki and Sukkur districts as well during March 18 and 19 with occasional gaps.
The weather advisory department said lightning strikes may occur at isolated places during the forecast period.
Farmers are advised to manage their crops according to the prevailing weather conditions.
In its three-day forecast, it forecast that the minimum temperature will drop to 21 C and the highest will reach 35 C.
The PMD a day ago also forecast more rain-wind/thunderstorm in various parts of the country from March 17 to 20.
“Partly cloudy to cloudy weather is expected in upper parts of the country while rain, wind and thunderstorm are likely to hit Balochistan and adjoining areas during Eid days,” the PMD said.
The Met Office predicted that another westerly wave is likely to approach western parts of the country on March 17 (evening/night) and likely to grip most parts of the country on March 18 and may persist till March 20.
