KARACHI: Senator Muhammad Nehal Hashmi took oath as the 35th Governor of Sindh at a simple and graceful ceremony on Friday, at the Governor House.

Chief Justice, High Court of Sindh, Zafar Ahmed Rajput administered the oath of office to Senator Hashmi.

Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, his Cabinet members Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Saeed Ghani and Syed Zulifqar Ali Shah, members of the Provincial and National assemblies, PPP Secretary General, Sindh, Syed Waqar Mehdi, PML-N President of Sindh Bashir Memon, PML-N, Sindh’s Senior Vice President Advocate Ali Akbar Gujar, IG Police Sindh Javed Alam Odho, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, business leaders and elite of the city attended the ceremony.

Sindh Chief Secretary, Syed Asif Haider Shah, moderated the proceedings of the ceremony. He also read out the Commission of Appointment of the new Governor signed by President Asif Ali Zardari.

The dignitaries present at the ceremony congratulated Senator Muhammad Nehal Hashmi on assuming the office as the Governor Sindh.

After the oath, the Governor mixed up with the guests and posed for group photos.

After the oath-taking, Senator Muhammad Nihal Hashmi went to Mazar-e-Quaid to pay tribute to the Father-of-the-Nation.

Sindh Minister for Labour and Social Security Saeed Ghani, Secretary General PPP Sindh Senator Waqar Mehdi, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murataza Wahab welcomed the appointment of Senator Muhammad Nihal Hashmi as the Governor Sindh.

They acknowledged the struggle of Senator Hashmi for democracy and were optimistic that he would be playing his best role for promoting democracy and parliamentary culture, and for political and religious harmony, in addition to contribute in the social and economic uplift of the province and the country.

“Mr Hashmi is a political worker, engaged in politics since his student life,” they noted.

When pointed out to the resentment of the MQM-P leadership on the removal of Muhammad Kamran Khan Tissori, Saeed Ghani regretted that there was nothing negative to be taken by anyone.

He stated that after 2024 general elections, it was agreed between PPP and PML-N that the Sindh Governor’s slot would go to the latter. However, it showed leniency in appointing its Governor.

He further explained that over last one and a half years, PPP repeatedly asked PML-N leadership to appoint their Governor as Kamran Khan Tissori was allegedly misusing this office and failed to perform as the representative of the Federation who is supposed to be impartial and win the confidence of all the political parties, especially the major ones, for the good of the province and the country.
