ISLAMABAD: Armed robbers and auto thieves struck at different places in the federal capital during the last week, depriving citizens of valuables including gold ornaments, cash, and mobile phones, as well as several motorbikes and cars.
According to information gathered by Business Recorder, 32 cases of car lifting, 10 cases of robbery, four incidents of street crime (snatching of cash and mobile phones at gunpoint), and three cases of murder were reported at different police stations in the city during the past week.
Criminal gangs were particularly active within the jurisdictions of Industrial Area, Tarnol, Shams Colony, and Korla police stations.
In one of the most shocking incidents, a teenage boy, Saim Iqbal, was stabbed to death allegedly by his neighbour in the Madina Town area of Jhungi Syedan.
According to police, a dispute between two school students of seventh and eighth grades turned violent after iftar. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly stabbed the 13-year-old boy with a dagger. The injured boy was shifted to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The suspect reportedly fled the area along with his family after the incident.
In another incident, the body of a young man identified as Maqsood Ahmed, son of Awal Taj, was recovered near an under-construction building within the jurisdiction of Sumbal police station.
Police said the body was discovered around 11:00 am in the Sangjani area and was later identified as Maqsood Ahmed.
Meanwhile, three robbers held a citizen at gunpoint in Sector I-10/1 and snatched his mobile phone before fleeing the scene within the limits of Sabzi Mandi police station.
In another case reported in No26 area, within the jurisdiction of Sangjani police station, two motorcyclists snatched a mobile phone from a citizen and escaped.
One case of murder, three cases of car lifting, and two cases of street crime were reported to Industrial Area police station, while four cases of carjacking and one case of robbery were registered at Tarnol police station.
