ISTANBUL: The Turkish lira slid to 43.9695 against the dollar in early trade on Monday, weakening from a close of 43.9 on Friday amid the turmoil in the Middle East.

Oil prices surged on Monday and shares slid as the conflict in the region looked set to last weeks, sending investors flocking to the relative safety of the dollar and gold.
