ISLAMABAD: The United States on Friday thanked Pakistan for supporting President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan and for joining the newly established Board of Peace – a diplomatic body specifically aimed at addressing the conflict in Gaza and reshaping the region’s future.
In a post on X, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that he had met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to commend Pakistan’s ongoing support for Trump’s Peace Plan for Gaza and for joining the Board of Peace.
“We also discussed the critical importance of our strategic partnership in the development of critical minerals and counterterrorism,” he added.

In response, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar thanked Rubio for the productive discussions on key areas of mutual interest.
Dar took to X, and said that Pakistan values its long-standing relationship with the US and expressed appreciation for the meaningful talks on advancing peace, boosting counterterrorism efforts, and expanding bilateral economic and trade ties.
He also conveyed Islamabad’s eagerness to further strengthen its strategic partnership with Washington on all fronts of shared concern.
Prime Minister Sharif, along with other global leaders, attended the inaugural meeting of the Trump-led Board of Peace (BoP) in Washington on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, he described his participation as an honour and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to achieving lasting peace in Gaza.
“The pursuit of sustainable peace in Gaza is a collective mission,” he said, adding that the day marked a “golden chapter in history” for peace efforts in the Middle East.
He expressed optimism that the initiative would ultimately lead to long-term stability in the war-torn region.
In his remarks, President Trump praised both PM Sharif and Pakistan’s “tough, serious fighter,” Chief of Defence Forces and Field Marshal Asim Munir, stating, “I like this man (Sharif) of Pakistan.”
Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar stated that Pakistan had received a warm reception at the Board of Peace meeting in Washington.
In a video message, Tarar noted that US President Trump had commended Pakistan’s pivotal role in global peace, which has significantly enhanced the country’s international standing.
He also highlighted that Pakistan’s successful foreign policy is positioning the nation as an increasingly influential player on the world stage.
According to Prime Minister’s Office, on the sidelines of the Board of Peace meeting, PM Sharif engaged in cordial discussions with several world leaders, including Trump.
In a relaxed meeting, the two leaders were seen exchanging warm pleasantries, shaking hands and sharing a hug, reflecting the genuine goodwill between the nations.
In addition to Trump, PM Sharif also met with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan, and President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia, all of whom attended the event in Washington.
During these interactions, the leaders discussed a range of important global and regional issues, demonstrating close ties and a shared commitment to peace and stability.
