LAHORE: The provincial energy department is expected to complete multiple ongoing development projects, including solarisation of important public departments by June this year.

While briefing the provincial Minister for Energy Malik Faisal Ayub on ongoing annual development schemes at a meeting, the officials said that under the Chief Minister’s Free Solar Panel Scheme, 67,184 solar systems have already been installed division-wise. The Murala, Pakpattan and Chianwali projects have been completed, while the Deg Outfall project is expected to be completed by December 2026. The minister was also informed that the pre-qualification process for the Biogas Fertilizer Plant Gujar Colony has been completed.

Regarding solarisation of higher secondary schools, it was shared that out of a total of 256 schools, 50 schools will be completed this year. In the Tube Wells Solarisation Scheme in Okara, machinery delivery for 12 out of 17 tube wells has been completed. Furthermore, the contract for the upgradation of the Solar PV Module Testing Lab at Kala Shah Kaku Campus has also been awarded. Solarisation of major public buildings, including Central Jail Kot Lakhpat, Police Lines Qila Gujar Singh Lahore, Lahore College for Women University, University of Home Economics, Bureau of Statistics, Higher Education Department and other institutions is also expected to be completed by June 2026. The minister was also briefed on progress regarding green energy projects, remote monitoring systems, and the establishment of the ‘Electric Power Regulatory Authority Punjab’.

The minister stated that providing affordable, high-quality and uninterrupted electricity to the people is the fundamental agenda of the Punjab Government. He added that Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision is to ensure modern, environment-friendly and reliable energy reaches every home and institution across the province. He emphasized that transparency, merit and timely completion of all energy development projects will be ensured at every stage.

The minister reaffirmed that the Energy Department Punjab will complete all projects within the stipulated time frame, and will continue taking practical steps to overcome the energy crisis.
