FAISALABAD: Government College University Faisalabad organised an awareness walk and seminar to mark the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism, reaffirming its commitment to promoting peace, tolerance and interfaith harmony.
The event was attended by prominent scholars, religious leaders, faculty members and students. Among the distinguished participants were Dean Faculty of Islamic and Oriental Learning Prof Dr Humayun Abbas, Chairman, Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Dr Yasir Arafat, Sahibzada Hafiz Muhammad Amjad, Member of the Council of Islamic Ideology, Sardar Narinder Singh, Father Taufiq Younus of Catholic Church Warispura, and Prof Dr Ghulam Murtaza Aatir.
Addressing the seminar, Sahibzada Hafiz Muhammad Amjad emphasised the need for collective efforts to eliminate extremist tendencies from society. He said Islam is a religion of peace, moderation and tolerance, and any form of violence in the name of religion contradicts its true teachings.
Prof Dr Humayun Abbas highlighted the importance of academic discourse in countering extremist narratives.
Dr Yasir Arafat stressed interfaith harmony and mutual respect as key elements in preventing violent extremism. He said dialogue among different religious and social groups strengthens national cohesion and fosters peaceful coexistence.
Other speakers also underscored the role of education, awareness and community engagement in addressing the root causes of extremism. They called upon students to become ambassadors of peace and contribute positively to society.
