ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday pledged to tackle the nation’s most urgent issue – terrorism – with renewed resolve, vowing to take decisive action in the coming days.

Chairing a high-level meeting of the federal cabinet in the wake of the recent terrorist attack in Balochistan, the prime minister reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism nationwide. “The federal government, with the support of all provinces, relevant entities, and the people, is fully committed to eradicating terrorism,” he declared.

A significant portion of the cabinet meeting focused on recent developments in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The prime minister highlighted the a recent “productive” meeting with the Chief Minister KP Sohail Afridi, emphasising the need for cooperation and coordination between the federal government and the provinces for national progress and prosperity.

“This mutual cooperation between the federal and provincial governments is crucial for the development and well-being of the country,” he added.

Furthermore, the prime minister told the cabinet on Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives, including the recent visit of Kazakhstan’s President and the forthcoming visit of Uzbekistan’s President.

He expressed confidence that these visits would bolster Pakistan’s strategic ties with these key Central Asian nations. In a gesture of solidarity with Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sharif also informed the cabinet that Pakistan would not be participating in the upcoming T20 World Cup bilateral match against India, following diplomatic consultations with Dhaka.
