QUETTA: Member Balochistan Assembly Ali Madad Jattak on Monday sworn in as minister in Balochistan’s provincial cabinet.
Governor Balochistan Jaffer Mandokhel administered oath to the new Balochistan cabinet member who is expected to be given the portfolio of the provincial home department.
The crucial provincial ministry was vacant for last two years and was under the supervision of the Chief Minister of Balochistan Sarfaraz Bugti.
The oath ceremony was also attended by Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti, as well as provincial ministers, members of the assembly, secretaries and other officials.
Ali Madad Jattak of the PPP was elected MPA in the Feb 8 general elections and was made Balochistan’s agriculture minister. However, his victory was declared void by an election tribunal on a petition submitted by Mir Pirkani, a JUI-F candidate from PB-45.
Jattak retained his Balochistan Assembly seat in the by-election held in 15 polling stations of PB-45 Quetta on the Election Tribunal’s order.
Officials confirmed that the provincial home minister’s portfolio had remained with the Chief Minister of Balochistan for the past two years. The transfer of the ministry is expected to bring renewed focus to internal security and law and order matters in the province.
As home minister, Jattak will be responsible for overseeing internal security, policing and law and order across Balochistan. His appointment comes at a time when the province faces ongoing security and administrative challenges.
The appointment holds huge significance in the wake of security forces’ ongoing operations against terrorists over the past three days.
According to security sources, security forces have killed 22 more terrorists in Balochistan during ongoing counterterrorism operations.
