KARACHI: The Pakistan Navy on Monday commenced its national-level maritime security exercise SEA GUARD–2026 in Karachi, aimed at strengthening coordination among key stakeholders to counter evolving maritime security challenges.
The opening briefing of the exercise was held under the auspices of the Pakistan Navy, with Commander Coast, Vice Admiral Faisal Amin, attending as the chief guest. This marks the third edition of the SEA GUARD series, which will run from February 2 to February 9, 2026.
According to the Pakistan Navy, Exercise SEA GUARD–2026 seeks to bring together a broad spectrum of participants from across the maritime domain, including representatives from the shipping industry, fishing sector, law enforcement agencies, government organizations, and private sector entities, to enhance collective preparedness and response capabilities.
The exercise is designed to synergize the efforts of all stakeholders to ensure safety and security within Pakistan’s maritime zones and adjoining waters. It includes a range of scenario-based drills, along with table-top discussions, aimed at rehearsing and improving mechanisms for maritime protection along Pakistan’s coastline.
During the opening briefing, participants were also briefed on the working methodology and operational effectiveness of the Joint Maritime Information Coordination Centre (JMICC), which plays a key role in maritime domain awareness and inter-agency coordination.
Addressing the participants, Vice Admiral Faisal Amin lauded the efforts of all stakeholders for taking part in the national-level exercise and highlighted the importance of joint collaboration in addressing maritime threats. He also acknowledged the proactive role of the media in promoting maritime awareness at the national level.
