Pakistan has accepted an invitation to join the Board of Peace (BoP) with the aim of supporting lasting peace in Gaza, the Foreign Office said on Wednesday.

The statement said the invitation was extended to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif by United States President Donald J. Trump.

Pakistan announced its decision to join the Board of Peace as part of its ongoing efforts to support the implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan under the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803.

Pakistan expressed hope that the creation of the Board of Peace would lead to concrete steps toward the implementation of a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, a significant scale-up of humanitarian assistance for Palestinians, and the reconstruction of the war-torn enclave.

The statement said Pakistan also hoped the initiative would contribute to the realization of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination through a credible, time-bound political process consistent with international law and relevant UN resolutions.

It reiterated Pakistan’s support for the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and contiguous State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Pakistan said it looked forward to playing a constructive role as part of the Board of Peace to help achieve these objectives and to contribute to ending the suffering of the Palestinian people.
