RAWALINDI: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday adjourned the hearing of a case registered against incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan‘s sister Aleema Khan and others in connection with November 26, 2025 protest after defence counsel completed cross-examination of seven witnesses.
ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah while hearing the case, summoned more witnesses after defence counsel Faisal Malik completed cross examination of seven prosecution witnesses. The court adjourned hearing of the case till January 21.
During the proceedings, an exchange of harsh words took place between the defence counsel and prosecutor Zaheer Shah. The prosecutor alleged that the defence was wasting the court’s time by asking irrelevant questions, while the defence argued that cross-examination is a legal right and he can ask any question from witnesses.Due to continuous absence, the court appointed a state counsel for accused Atif Riaz. Advocate Chaudhry Ameen Masood was appointed as the state counsel, who will conduct cross-examination of the prosecution witnesses on behalf of the accused.
Defence counsel requested the court to adjourn the hearing till Wednesday. The court later put off the proceedings till January 21.
Talking to reporters after the hearing, Aleema Khan said that Imran Khan has been kept in solitary confinement for the past two and a half years, while his electoral mandate was stolen two years ago. She remarked that massive electoral rigging led to the formation of a fake assembly, which, over the past two years, passed the much-controversial 26th and 27th constitutional amendments. She alleged that those in power now consider themselves above the law and the constitution and are trying to silence the public by keeping the PTI founding chairman imprisoned.
Aleema Khan claimed that courts are not functioning properly and that false testimonies are being presented. Referring to a recent incident, she alleged that last week, while returning from Adiala Jail, police forced women out of their vehicles while one woman was harassed.
