LAHORE: The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has launched a comprehensive crackdown against vehicles using fake, cloned and tampered number plates by effectively utilizing advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.

The initiative aims to prevent crime, improve traffic discipline and ensure public safety across the province.

According to the PSCA, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) based cameras installed across Punjab are capable of detecting fake and tampered number plates promptly and accurately. As soon as a suspicious number plate is identified, the safe city automated system immediately generates an alert, enabling swift action by all relevant stakeholders.

It was further stated that Virtual Patrolling Officers, upon receiving these alerts, promptly share complete details with the nearest police and field formations. As a result, vehicles using fake number plates are traced in a timely manner, and legal action is being launched against drivers involved. With the support of AI-based system, several vehicles using cloned number plates have been identified in recent days.

The indiscriminate legal action is underway against individuals using fake and cloned number plates, with cases being registered under Section 420 and the Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965-A. The Punjab Safe Cities Authority is strictly implementing a zero-tolerance policy against fake and tampered number plates.

The PSCA has warned the citizens to avoid tampering or altering number plates to evade e-challan is as it amounts to committing serious violation and may lead to registration of an FIR against the violators. Alteration of number plates is a serious offense and strict legal action is being taken in accordance with the law. The spokesperson urged the citizens to use only genuine and original number plates along with extending cooperation to law enforcement agencies.

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority remains committed to utilizing modern technology to protect lives and property of citizens besides accomplishing Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of “Safe Punjab.”
