KARACHI: Naya Nazimabad and K-Electric (KE) have signed an agreement to build a 132 kV grid station in housing society. The grid station, in compliance of Nepra CSM and as a Sponsor Dedicated Distribution System – would culminate with one of the city’s largest capacities for a private housing society, reaching up to 189MW.

In the first phase, the grid will energise 60 MW of peak energy which will be enhanced to 189 MW in the second phase. The grid station will cater to the growing energy needs of Naya Nazimabad’s residents and commercial establishments, reinforcing KE’s commitment to powering progress and enabling modern living standards. Unlike traditional dedicated setups, the grid offers shared infrastructure benefits, optimised distribution, and enhanced reliability for thousands of households and businesses within the community.

Moonis Alvi, CEO of KE, said, “This partnership is about energising a future-ready Karachi. By delivering reliable power through a grid station, we are enabling thousands of families to experience modern living while supporting the city’s economic and social growth. The KE remains committed to building solutions that anticipate and meet the evolving needs of our communities.”

Abdus Samad Habib, CEO of Naya Nazimabad, said, “Naya Nazimabad is envisioned as a complete lifestyle destination, and uninterrupted energy is vital to realising this vision. Our collaboration with the KE ensured that residents enjoy world-class amenities powered by a robust and sustainable energy supply. The grid station further strengthens our infrastructure, making Naya Nazimabad a model for future urban developments in Pakistan.”

The 132 kV grid station also supports Naya Nazimabad’s long-term expansion plans, including residential, commercial, and recreational facilities.

It is also the latest partnership the KE has undertaken with the private sector that is seeing growing confidence in the power utility system’s reliability and cost competitiveness especially for industries with expanding operations. The partnership also caters to unique operational needs, and features a forward approach featuring customers investing in their own grid infrastructure.
