Outside Adiala Jail: PTI decries use of water cannon on protestors

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday vehemently condemned the authorities for blocking PTI founder’s meetings with his sisters and using water cannons to disperse PTI protesters outside Adiala Jail.

In a statement, the PTI condemned the actions as a gross violation of the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) orders, accusing the government of “deliberate, organised obstruction” to prevent Khan’s family, particularly his sisters, from meeting him as sanctioned by the court.

The party described this interference as not only an administrative failure but as a direct affront to the constitution, the judiciary, and the rule of law.

“These actions represent a systematic erosion of the principles that this country is founded upon,” the statement said, stressing that the government’s conduct was tantamount to a rejection of judicial authority.

According to the PTI, the incident unfolded on Tuesday when Khan’s sisters and lawyers arrived at Adiala Jail as per the court’s order, only to be denied entry.

This, the party claims, is indicative of the government’s flagrant disregard for judicial rulings, highlighting a growing trend where court decisions seem to have little impact on the ruling establishment’s actions.

PTI condemned what it called unprecedented government brutality, accusing the Punjab Police of deploying ‘chemical-laced’ water cannons against a peaceful sit-in of IK sisters, PTI lawmakers, and their supporters in the early hours of Wednesday on a bitterly cold night.

The party stressed that no emergency existed that could justify such extreme measures, describing the act as “a disgraceful act of fascism.”

The PTI further questioned the growing culture of impunity, asking whether judicial orders had now become mere pieces of paper.

“Under what law or constitution is it permissible to use chemical-laced water against citizens peacefully exercising their rights? Whose authority sanctioned such violence,” it questioned.

The party underscored that this apparent state of lawlessness could not persist indefinitely. “History is replete with examples of tyrannical regimes meeting their end,” PTI declared, vowing that the “oppression, tyranny, and fascism” would ultimately be held accountable.

“The spirit of the people is indomitable, and the truth will eventually prevail,” the statement concluded, invoking a sense of moral clarity amidst what it framed as a “morally bankrupt” government.
