LAHORE: Under the auspices of the Punjab Chief Minister’s Initiative Program, a comprehensive two-year development master plan is currently underway to transform the Lahore Arts Council (Alhamra) into a state-of-the-art institution.

Formulated under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) scheme, this ambitious project aims to elevate Alhamra’s literary, cultural, and artistic identity to align seamlessly with contemporary global standards.

To ensure the seamless execution of this vision, a high-level coordination meeting was convened today. During the proceedings, the XEN C&W delivered a comprehensive technical briefing to facilitate cooperation between the contractor, C&W officials, and the project’s distinguished consultants.

The renowned design and drawing consultant, Nayyar Ali Dada, briefed Executive Director Alhamra, Muhammad Nawaz Gondal, on the project’s architectural nuances.

Furthermore, to ensure the initiative achieves the highest aesthetic excellence, the Council has engaged the expertise of the internationally acclaimed artist Imran Qureshi. This collaborative effort aims to execute the renovation in strict adherence to the progressive vision of the Honorable Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, and the Minister for Information & Culture.

Outlining the operational strategy, Executive Director Muhammad Nawaz Gondal stated that the project will be executed in three distinct phases, focusing on extensive renovation and infrastructural modernization to make the facilities more immersive for both artists and audiences.

Phase I will encompass the revitalization of the Alhamra Art Gallery, the Puppet Hall, and the Alhamra Art Museum (Cultural Complex). Phase II will cover Alhamra Hall 1, Hall 3, and both auditoriums situated at the Cultural Complex. The third and final phase will see the upgradation of Alhamra Hall 2 and other auxiliary areas.

Talking on the spirit behind this transformation, Executive Director Muhammad Nawaz Gondal remarked, “These initiatives are part of a cohesive vision to provide a modern and art-friendly environment. Alhamra is not merely an institution; it is the true interpreter of Punjab’s cultural soul. We are marching towards modernity while steadfastly upholding our traditions, ensuring that every artist and spectator here encounters a platform that meets international benchmarks.”

It was concluded with the assurance that these endeavors by the Lahore Arts Council will serve as a shining example for the promotion of art and culture, establishing a legacy of excellence on the global stage.

Deputy Director Admin Syed Umair Hassan, Deputy Director Library & Archive Muhammad Arif, and Deputy Director PR Subha Sadiq were also present.
