ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the Finance Ministry to clear all outstanding dues and release the monthly pension of former Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) Akhtar Buland Rana by the end of December.
A single-judge bench of Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani on Friday heard a contempt petition filed by ex-AGP Buland Rana over the non-implementation of a court order for the release of his pension and other dues amounting to over Rs2.56 Crore.
The Court warned that non-payment of pension and clearance of all dues could lead to contempt proceedings and freezing of the Ministry’s accounts.
During the hearing, the court expressed displeasure at the repeated failure to comply with its directives. The finance secretary, through the Assistant Attorney General (AAG) sought time. He said that an Intra-Court Appeal (ICA) filed by the government against the pension order had been pending before the Court.
Justice Kayani stated that mere pendency of an appeal is not a valid excuse for non-compliance. He then remarked that if the ICA is pending, then get the order suspended, or implement the judicial order. He added that there is no issue of stubbornness or ego here; the court has to get its orders implemented.
The judge asked the AAG to ensure the payment of the applicant’s monthly pension by the end of this month. He warned that if it was not done, then a contempt of court notice would be issued.
