KARACHI: On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, Sindh Government Spokesperson and Board Member Sindh Human Rights Commission Sukhdev Assardas Hemnani reaffirmed the Sindh Government’s unwavering commitment to the protection, promotion and advancement of human rights under the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party.
In his statement, Hemnani emphasised that Sindh has consistently led Pakistan in introducing progressive, rights-based legislation aimed at safeguarding women, children, religious minorities, labourers, persons with disabilities and marginalized communities across the province.
“Human rights are not a slogan for us; they are a responsibility. Under the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Sindh has transformed rights into enforceable laws and built institutions that protect dignity and justice for every citizen,” said Hemnani.
He highlighted that Sindh is the only province in Pakistan with an independent statutory Sindh Human Rights Commission, established to monitor violations, promote accountability and raise awareness of fundamental rights.
The Spokesperson noted that under PPP leadership, Sindh has enacted landmark legislation, including laws against child marriage, domestic violence, bonded labour and workplace harassment, as well as laws protecting minority rights, guaranteeing women’s inheritance, ensuring inclusion of persons with disabilities, safeguarding maternal and child health, and recognizing the rights of women agricultural workers.
He said these reforms demonstrate Sindh’s resolve to protect the most vulnerable segments of society through concrete legal frameworks.
“Sindh has always stood at the forefront of rights protection in Pakistan. From women’s empowerment to minority rights and child protection, the Pakistan Peoples Party has always led the progressive legislation to strengthen human rights protections,” he stated.
Hemnani said Sindh’s rights-based policies have provided a legislative model for other provinces and for federal reforms, reinforcing the province’s position as a progressive force in Pakistan’s democratic development.
On International Human Rights Day, he called upon all institutions, civil society and citizens to renew their commitment to equality, tolerance, and respect for the rule of law, emphasizing that sustainable development is impossible without the protection of fundamental freedoms.
He reaffirmed that the Government of Sindh under PPP leadership remains determined to further strengthen democratic institutions, expand access to justice, and ensure that human rights protections reach every individual across the province without discrimination.
