KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, while speaking about the City Council session held on Monday, said that due to the tragic incident that took place the previous day, the City Council meeting was kept brief.

“We intended to discuss the incident during the council session.”

As a legislative council, PPP supported elected local representatives had always tried to resolve the issues of the city, but Jamaat-e-Islami representatives in the City Council did not believe in constructive politics and were engaged only in criticism,” he said.

He said that before levelling allegations, Jamaat-e-Islami members do not even consider under whose authority the town or the UC falls. Jamaat-e-Islami members began chanting slogans even before the City Council meeting started. They had arrived with placards and banners. But, he asserted, we will do politics for Karachi’s progress, not through placards and banners.

Double standards and hypocrisy cannot continue. Let’s have constructive dialogue. We all need to work sincerely and collectively for the betterment of Karachi, the Mayor pledged.

The Mayor is making a very positive point. Creating a rumpus & pointing fingers will not solve problems. They must sit together, compromise, find common ground & address the problens facing the city.
