Pakistan condemns Washington shooting involving Afghan national
- FO also expresses condolences over killing of Chinese workers in Tajikistan
Pakistan on Friday condemned the shooting incident in Washington DC, reportedly involving an Afghan national, calling it a targeted act of terrorism.
In a statement, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi expressed condolences over the death of a US soldier and wished the injured a swift recovery. He also extended sympathies to the families of the victims and to the US government and people.
Andrabi said the attack was a “heinous assault” and highlighted that Pakistan had faced numerous similar incidents over the past two decades, many with links to Afghanistan. The incident, he said, underlined the threat posed by transnational terrorism.
He warned that the shooting reflected a troubling resurgence of terrorism globally and called for renewed international cooperation to address the challenge.
“Pakistan remains committed to working with the United States and the wider international community to counter terrorism,” the spokesperson added.

In a statement, the Foreign Office also expressed deep condolences to China and Tajikistan after three Chinese workers were killed in what officials described as a terrorist attack near Tajikistan’s border with Afghanistan.
In a statement, the Foreign Office said Pakistan “unequivocally condemns” the attack, calling the use of armed drones in the incident a serious escalation that underscores the threat emerging from Afghan territory.
As a neighbour that has “repeatedly suffered terrorist attacks orchestrated from Afghan soil,” Pakistan said it fully shares the grief of its Chinese and Tajik partners.
The spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s long-standing position that Afghan territory must not be used for terrorism against any country. The continued presence and activities of terrorist groups under the Afghan Taliban’s watch, the statement said, remain a matter of serious concern for the region and the broader international community.
The Foreign Office called for “concrete and verifiable action” against the perpetrators, facilitators and financiers of such attacks, stressing that this was the only way to counter the expanding threat.
Pakistan said it would continue working with China, Tajikistan and other regional partners to support peace and stability in the region.
