Pakistani actress Sonya Hussyn received the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in the film Deemak at the Eurasian Open Awards “Diamond Butterfly” ceremony held in Moscow.

The inaugural award ceremony featured participation from 17 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, and Latin America with 34 movies, offering a diverse and vibrant global platform for cinematic exchange.

Pakistan participated in the festival with two films — Love Guru, starring Mahira Khan and Humayun Saeed, and Deemak.

Pakistan’s participation in the first-ever Eurasian Film Academy Awards reflects the nation’s growing engagement with global cinema and its commitment to showcasing Pakistani talent on international platforms, said a statement.

Following her win, the Masoom drama actor took to Instagram and wrote,” This moment is bigger than an award. It’s proof that when a dream is carried with honesty, hunger, and heart… it finds its way home.”

“To every young girl in Pakistan who wonders if her voice matters this win is yours.”

The film stars Faysal Quraishi, Samina Peerzada, Javed Sheikh and Bushra Ansari.

As per Variety, Deemak has earned Rs17.5 crore ($620,000) at the Pakistani box office, marking an unprecedented achievement for the horror genre in the region. The film claimed the title of Pakistan’s highest-grossing horror film of all time while continuing to play in select local cinemas.

Deemak explores the volatile relationship between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law against a backdrop of escalating paranormal disturbances in a family home.
