LAHORE: Karot Power Company Limited (KPCL), the operator of the 720 MW Karot Hydropower Project, and Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch a scholarship program for underprivileged undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Under the agreement, the Chinese power company will provide annual financial support for up to 10 students, with priority given to those living in the areas surrounding the Karot project.
University officials said the funds will help cover tuition and related academic expenses for students who meet the eligibility criteria.
According to Gwadar Pro, the initiative is part of the project’s ongoing community-focused efforts in the project region, where the company has previously supported health services, technical training facilities, clean drinking water schemes, and local infrastructure improvements.
The Karot Hydropower Project, a major energy initiative under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), contributes to Pakistan’s clean power generation capacity. MUST, based in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, is a public sector university specializing in science, engineering, and technology education.
