ISLAMABAD: The embattled Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) erupted in fury on Thursday following the deplorable treatment of Imran Khan’s sisters outside Adiala Jail, labelling the incident as shameful and a blatant act of political victimization.

The fierce condemnation came during a parliamentary committee meeting, where PTI leaders also launched a vehement attack on the 26th and 27th Amendments, now signed into law, as well as a series of controversial moves by both the federal and Punjab governments.

The committee, led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, left no stone unturned in criticising the Punjab Police’s “thuggish behaviour” towards Imran Khan’s sisters. The appalling treatment of Aleema Khan, Noreen Khan, and Dr Uzma Khan was branded completely unacceptable.

The sister trio, accompanied by several MPAs and MNAs, were dragged away by police while attempting to stage a sit-in outside Adiala Jail after being denied permission to visit Imran Khan.

The incident, PTI argued, was a clear example of state-sponsored violence and harassment – a brutal misuse of state power with no moral or legal justification.

The committee also issued a stern warning: any further disrespect or mistreatment of provincial ministers or assembly members will not be tolerated, with the KP government pledging to take immediate action if such incidents continue.

In response to recent legislation granting lifetime immunity to certain to civil and military officials, PTI announced it would observe every Friday as a ‘Black Day’ to protest the amendments and raise concerns over political victimisation and growing authoritarianism.

Beyond the Adiala Jail incident, the committee condemned the “biased and violent” actions of both the federal and Punjab governments, accusing them of undermining the federation, sowing political vengeance, and trampling on provincial rights.

In a sharp jab at Punjab’s Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, PTI pointed out that an unelected figure now heads the country’s largest province, while those who have won their mandates through the democratic process are being persecuted.

The committee also reiterated its unwavering support for Imran Khan and his family, vowing that no amount of pressure, threats, or political blackmail would force them to back down. PTI warned that the ongoing political repression could lead to “dangerous consequences” if left unchecked.

The meeting was attended by PTI heavyweights, including Babar Saleem Swati, Speaker of the KP Provincial Assembly, Provincial President Junaid Akbar Khan, and other senior party officials.
