Attack on Cadet College Wana foiled; two terrorists killed: ISPR

  • Military says the assailants attempted to breach the college perimeter by ramming an explosive-laden vehicle into the main gate

Security forces on Monday foiled a terrorist attack on Cadet College Wana in South Waziristan, killing two militants and cornering three others inside the college administrative block, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

Clearance operations were under way to eliminate the remaining attackers, the military statement added.

According to the ISPR, the assailants attempted to breach the college perimeter and rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the main gate, causing the gate’s collapse and damage to adjacent infrastructure.

Troops engaged the intruders and eliminated two of the attackers outside the compound, while three managed to enter and have been contained in the administrative block.

The military said the trapped militants were in contact with handlers in Afghanistan and were receiving instructions, accusing the group, described in the statement as “Fitna al Khwarij” and an Indian proxy, of attempting to replicate the 2014 Army Public School attack.

The ISPR warned that Pakistan reserves the right to respond against terrorists and their leadership present in Afghanistan.

The statement said security forces will continue their counter-terrorism campaign under the government-approved vision “Azm-e-Istehkam” and that clearance operations alongside law-enforcement agencies would continue until the threat was eliminated.
