Marginal gain for another week

KARACHI: Pakistan rupee posted marginal gain for another week as it appreciated by Re0.09 or 0.03 percent against the US dollar in the inter-bank market.

The local unit closed at 280.82, against 280.91 it had closed the week earlier against the greenback, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

Pakistan’s headline inflation clocked in at 6.2% on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in October 2025, showed Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), a reading higher than the Ministry of Finance estimate of 5-6 percent.

The consumer price index (CPI) was recorded at 5.6 percent in September 2025. The CPI stood at 6.9 percent in October 2024.

The inflow of overseas workers’ remittances into Pakistan stood at USD3.4 billion in October 2025.

Remittances increased by nearly 12 percent YoY, compared to USD3.1 billion recorded in the same month last year. On a monthly basis, remittances were up over 7 percent, compared to USD3.2 billion in September.

The SBP foreign exchange reserves increased by USD31 million to USD14.50 billion during the week ended October 31, 2025.

The total liquid foreign reserves held by the country stood at USD19.66 billion as of October 31. Of this, the central bank held USD14.50 billion, while net reserves held by commercial banks amounted to USD5.16 billion.

Open-market rates

In the open market, the PKR gained 14 paise for buying and 10 paise for selling against USD, closing at 281.31 and 281.85, respectively.

Against Euro, the PKR gained 1.51 paisa for buying and 1.34 paisa for selling, closing at 324.09 and 327.41, respectively.

Against UAE Dirham, the PKR gained 6 paise for buying and 11 paise for selling, closing at 76.67 and 77.44, respectively.

Against Saudi Riyal, the PKR gained 4 paise for buying and 3 paise for selling, closing at 74.96 and 75.59, respectively.
