KARACHI: “The Sindh government is striving to modernise the Livestock and Fisheries Department through information technology.”

This was stated by the Provincial Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Muhammad Ali Malkani, while presiding over an important meeting regarding information technology at his office on Wednesday.

He said that just as the Sindh government has decided to include the agenda and other details of cabinet meetings on a modern digital portal, similarly, we want to organise the Livestock and Fisheries Department through an advanced portal system.

Through this platform, departmental meetings, review sessions, and services for livestock owners across Sindh will be streamlined so that they can access veterinary treatment facilities right at their doorstep.

Through this portal, district-level complaints, requirements, or reports of animal diseases can be submitted.

The district officers of the department will be responsible for addressing such complaints within 24 hours and submitting a detailed report.

This report will include information about the sick animals, the type of disease, and details regarding the use and stock of medicines.

The high-level meeting chaired by Minister Muhammad Ali Malkani was attended by ITM Tech Solutions Directors Ahsan M Mustafa and Imtiaz Khan.

Muhammad Ali Malkani stated that the department is determined to achieve progress through modern technology and to provide better facilities to the livestock owners of Sindh.

He added that the aim is to ensure that the issues of livestock owners are not only resolved at the district level but also effectively communicated to the department’s secretary and minister for prompt action and timely resolution.

While addressing the meeting, Provincial Minister Muhammad Ali Malkani said that a central helpline number should be established in the department to address complaints, through which farmers and fishermen across Sindh can register their grievances. These complaints should effectively reach from the Deputy Director to the Secretary and the Minister to ensure prompt action.

He further said that tracker systems should be installed in the vehicles of the Livestock Department so that the movement of vehicles — from farms to any destination—can be monitored to maintain transparency.

Moreover, the minister directed that a modern digital application be developed for the department, containing all administrative details such as transfers, postings, and information about vacant positions at the district level, in order to make the department’s performance more efficient and effective.
