KARACHI: In a decisive move to curb profiteering and ensure fair pricing of essential commodities, the Karachi administration has intensified its crackdown on sugar hoarders and sellers charging above official rates.
According to the spokesperson for the Commissioner Karachi Division, a fresh notification regulating sugar prices was issued on September 22, 2025, and enforcement teams have conducted 3,759 inspections across the city, resulting in 1,153 challans, Rs 10.2 million in fines, 3 arrests, and the sealing of 24 shops.
The spokesperson emphasized that the campaign is part of a broader effort to stabilize market prices and protect consumers from exploitation. “The crackdown will continue with full force to ensure the availability of sugar and other essential items at government-fixed rates,” the official stated.
This action reflects the administration’s commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability in the retail sector, especially amid rising concerns over inflation and commodity shortages.
